What is consultation performance reporting?
With only ten or fifteen minutes for each patient in the consult room, or limited time on-yard, it’s important to structure every consult in a way that makes it as efficient as possible, without compromising empathy and warmth. Consultation coaching is a great way to hone veterinary communication skills, assessing technique and tone and providing specific, practical feedback on how and where to do things differently.
Adhering to a standard consult process benefits everyone – it bonds clients to the practice through trust, supports the team and improves patient outcomes through better client conformance with recommended treatment plans.
How does it work?
Through Consult Coach, Onswitch’s veterinary professionals first observe and score your videos of real consults, before coaching you with tips to achieve consistently excellent levels of communication and engagement.
When you sign up for consultation performance reporting you’ll be set up securely on the Onswitch server and given access to a video upload tool. We’ll provide plenty of guidance on obtaining client consent, following recording protocols and ensuring security and confidentiality for all parties.
You then record a randomly-chosen selection of consults on a smartphone and upload the video files through your unique log-in details. A member of our team (all vets or nurses themselves) will review against the 7 Steps for optimal veterinary communication.
Providing videos are uploaded before the 20th of each month, they will be reviewed the same month. We see the best results when clinicians submit three
consult videos for review, with one month separating each so that feedback can be acted upon and practised in between reviews.
What do I get?
You will receive a personalised report measuring performance against each of the 7 Steps and setting a benchmark for comparison. Your report will highlight
examples of best practice or detail where different communication techniques or subtle shifts in tone may be recommended.
